I think the theme is courage because as Alice Coachman had faith and courage she made it to the Olympics and she won it. When Alice was little she loved running and jumping but as she got older her dad said " that running and jumping was not lady like sense she is one of the 10 children. She had a lot of chores to do she got up early to cook corn bread and eggs after school she washed clothes and hung them up to dry and she picked cotton and peaches with her older brothers and sisters. And took care of the younger children still Alice could think about running and jumping Alice collected sticks and rags tied them together to make her own high jumps. Alice collected sticks and rags tied them together to make her own high jumps Alice jumped so high, she soared like a bird above the cotton fields so she filly made it to the Olympics she did the 5ft. 6 1/8in. and she set a new Olympics record. This book makes me think that I will have that courage to reach my dreams.

I think it's respect too because Maria's learning to respect someone's stuff. Like wearing her mother's diamond ring without asking her to wear it.

The theme in the book So far from the sea is family because theY were very lucky to have each other. Laura and Thomas are Japanese Americans and their parents were kids when Japan and America were at war and they were took away to the camps. Their grandfather died at the camp and many years later Their mom and dad grew up and brought Laura and Thomas to the cemetery in honor of the grandfather. When Laura and Thomas don't understand why the Americans put them in camps Laura says " It was the meanest thing in the whole world." "We were loyal Americans". Laura was upset about what had happened in their history and whispers " it was wrong."Wrong. "Wrong." Her dad then says " sometimes in the end there is no right or wrong". " it was a thing that happened long years ago." A thing that cannot be changed". The theme in this book makes me think that History can not be changed but we can learn from our mistakes.

The theme is ask before you take. At the beginning of the text when Maria and her mother are making tamales and kneading the masa her mom goes to answer the phone. Maria wants to wear her moms' ring so she puts it on and when her mom comes back she forgets to take it off and begins kneading the masa. When Maria discovers the ring is missing she tells her cousins to eat the tamales and to tell her if they bite something hard. Nobody bites anything and they ate all the tamales! When Maria walks up to tell her mother what she did she says I should of asked you and then she realizes that the ring is on her mom's finger. The message in this book makes me think that asking is very important.

I think the theme of Tar Beach is that you don't need to make everything right in your Family. But still he can't join the union because Grandpa wasn't a member. Well daddy's I going to own the that building ' cause I'm gonna fly over it and give it to him. Then it won't matter that he's not in the union or then he's colored or a half -Indian , like they all say. Also mommy won't cry all winter. When he's going to look for work and doesn't come back. Daddy said that the George Washington bridge was open when I was born. Ever since I wanted own the bridge myself now I claim it. I just had to fly over to the bridge and I own it now. Love your family the way it is.

We think the theme of Nothing but trouble is believe in your self because every body called Althea Gibson a trouble maker because she gets sidetracked and is out playing past her curfew! And doesn't return to class when gets dismissed. But still does everything she gets in trouble for. Even though she didn't like what she had to where and what she had to do but she still played it. And people were amazed! And even though she didn't believe in herself Buddy walker did! And that caused her to believe in herself! With that,Althea Gibson became the first African American ever to compete in and win the coveted Cup long considered the highest honor in tennis.

And this is the story of Eleanor Roosevelt.I think the theme is Courage because she had the courage to talk in front of all of the people. Back then the Wifes had to have an interest in what ever the husband had an interest to.She had to persuade a lot of people around the world so her husband could be president. She stood up for what she believed until it happened. This book makes me think of is that I will always have a Voice..............
